STaR at West Elementary & Tiger Elementary
The West/Tiger Targeted Services program is an extended day/year program for elementary students in grades K-3. The program focuses on reinforcing the academic and social skills of our students. Class sizes are kept small, with the largest having a ratio of 1 teacher and 1 education assistant working with 12 students in an activity-based program.
Funding for this program comes from the State of Minnesota under what is called “Targeted Services.” The program is dependent on students, with the support of their family, making the commitment to attend every session of the program. Unfortunately, transportation is not provided by the district.
Enrollment for Targeted Services is based on teacher recommendation. West offers a program for Kindergarten students during the school day and a before and after school program for First Graders. We also host a summer school program for students who have completed Kindergarten. These classes are held two days a week for eight weeks over the summer. Specific dates and times are shared with parents upon enrollment.
