Hutchinson Public Schools welcomes English Learners (ELs) and the rich diversity they bring to our schools. We strive to create quality learning environments that respect, reflect, and accommodate this diversity.
Our EL Program is designed to assist ELs in acquiring the formal academic English necessary to succeed in school and beyond. EL teachers align their instruction with the district’s curricula, WIDA English language development standards, and Minnesota state content standards.

“Academic Language is much more complicated than a set of big and bold vocabulary words that students must learn for Friday’s quiz. Students need to learn not only the big words (bricks) but also how to explain and link these bricks together with more subtle expressions (mortar) and grammar.” – Jeff Zwiers
