The Sports Marketing students at Hutchinson High School have teamed up with the Hutch Tigers Special Olympians in an effort to raise awareness and raise money. Each year students with developmental disabilities have an opportunity to participate in basketball, track, bowling and unified sports through Special Olympics Minnesota. To assist with expenses for equipment, busing, food and fees many of the athletes, Sports Marketing students and staff will be jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Calhoun (Bde Maka Ska) on March 2. To inform people about Special Olympics, recruit plungers and raise money; the Sports Marketing students have put their marketing skills to work in many different ways. They have developed slide shows with videos for students to view in FLIP, brought in a speaker for a student assembly, utilized many forms of social media, developed and distributed printed media, promoted Special Olympics at sporting events and at local businesses and have also been raising money so that Officer Berry “go jump in a lake” with them.
The students and athletes would like your support as they prepare to Take the Polar Plunge. Each participant must raise at least $75 in order to plunge. By going to http://www.plungemn.org/ you can scroll down to find a participant (or participants) you want to support, enter a dollar amount and then click “donate.” With just a few more clicks you will have made a difference for our Hutch Tiger Special Olympics team. Thank you for your support.
