West Elementary has undergone some changes over the past year in order to make the school more safe and secure. This video was produced with the intention of informing parents about these changes and to educate parents about the ways that West Elementary ensures the safety of all students. We discuss how to visit West, how to pick up your child early, and end of the day procedures as well.

Tigers of the Week: April 24-28, 2017
Congratulations to Emma and Mason, our TIGERs of the Week for April 24 – 28
Emma Kraft – Girls Golf
Emma beat her season goal at our second meet of the year. She also had some difficult holes early in a tournament at Hazeltine National, but was able to battle through and play the rest of her round well. Emma leads through her respect, which she shows to every person she plays with and each of her teammates. Emma’s effort at practice is focused and determined. She is quick to ask questions about her swing and how to improve her play. She is tenacious, which was seen while working to overcome some difficult holes at a difficult course. Her integrity makes her a great teammate, competitor, and leader – holding honesty and respect above winning. Emma serves as a great example for our younger golfers.
Mason Hoel – Boys Tennis
Mason made the jump from 4 singles to 2 singles this season and has been playing some of his best tennis, continuously improving from match to match. His game has improved greatly since last season and his effort in practice and matches is always top-notch. He’s willing to learn and try new things and his problem solving during matches makes him a tough opponent to deal with. He puts his head down and works hard every day to get better and is setting a great example for his younger teammates.

Congrats to Ryan and Jasmine, our TIGERs of the Week for April 17 – 21
Ryan Houseman – Boys Track and Field
Ryan has been one of our top distance runners the past three years. He recently placed at the prestigious Minnesota State Varsity Showcase Meet in Mankato in the 800 m run, as well as a member of the 4 X 200 m Relay team. Ryan is a three sport athlete who has set his goals high and works very hard to accomplish them. He has been a leader both on and off the track and is one of the top distance runners in the Conference.
Jasmine Schultz – Softball
Jasmine has done a great job in her first two varsity games of finding ways to get on base. In two games she has gone 5-8 with 4 runs scored and 7 RBI. She works hard in practice and does a great job asking questions. She is tenacious on the bases and is always looking to take the next base. She is very respectful towards her teammates, coaches and opponents.

Congratulations to Keerstin and Jeremiah, the TIGERs of the Week for April 10 – 13.
Keerstin Viesselman – Girls Track and Field
Keerstin is very interested in being the best she can be in the throwing events. The senior captain works hard each day and has perfect attendance so far this season. She is a true competitor. Her throw of 36’ ¼” at the Mankato West Triangular is the farthest in the last 12 years for the girls team in all meets in the shot put.
Jeremiah Van de Steeg – Baseball
You will not find a more deserving individual of our TIGER award than Jeremiah. He is one of our leading hitters right out of the gate. He is a student of the game, always wanting to get better with every competition – even when nobody is watching. To top things off, he is a gracious leader – always helping and teaching others around him and making them better each day, as much or more, than taking care of himself first – a sure sign that he understands the importance of the “WE” rather than the “ME” mentality.

Congrats to Chandler Theis, Haley Burgart, and Noah Ishihara, our TIGERs of the Week for April 3 – 7!
Chandler Theis – Choir
Chandler is a student who constantly has his head in the game. He knows what he’s supposed to do, he works hard, and he helps keep others on task. At the Region 2AA solo/ensemble contest he performed as a member of the chamber choir “Vox Tigris” with whom he earned a Superior Rating. He also performed a vocal solo which earned him a Superior Rating of 39 points out of 40.
Haley Burgart and Noah Ishihara – Speech
Haley and Noah have been great examples of performance and leadership for the speech team. They are serving as co-captains this year. They have both stuck with it and are now strong competitors who routinely place at tournaments and provide an example of tenacity and perseverance to younger competitors.
